My review is based mostly on food, as we didn't eat in. Their commander burger was HUGE and everything I want in a burger! My gf ordered a personal pizza & turkey club. She liked it all. Their house made chips were good, not greasy at all. When I went in, it was pretty empty since it was noon so I got to admire the gorgeous wood bar. The bartender told me restaurant had been remodeled a few years ago. She was friendly and my food didn't take too long. I'm sad for the helpers who had bad experiences, fortunately we did not!!

I am a local that has been in to have breakfast since they started serving it recently. First couple of experiences were not bad, service was slow but it was new so we expected a few hiccups. But yesterday was a whole different situation. We got there at 10am, most tables were already eating, we did not order a complicated meal, with lots of special requests. it took over an hour for our breakfast and when it did arrive my husband's hash browns were cold and I had the server stand there while I cut into my eggs. I ordered over hard and these were very obviously over easy. I took a piece of bacon and she tool the order back. I got my eggs back over hard with what I considered raw bacon, it was barely cooked. Upon looking at the bill I noticed I was charged for an OJ that I never ordered. There was a table of 10 that came in and were told that it would be a 45 minute wait for food, that was crazy being every table in there had received their food (3-4 tables). Our waitress looked our way several times and made eye contact with us but never came over and it took another 10 minutes to get our bill. I hope Neal get's a better cook or adds a cook or breakfast isn't going to last long. If he would have been there I would have expressed this to him personally.

If you're sick of the over-priced cocktails at Breezy Point, or are in need of a respectable pizza, then stop at Commander. The servers and staff are fun and have great personalities. Get the kids home by 8PM though, because there's a pretty wild late-night crowd. When the live music starts, then the real party begins. My favorite time to come us during the off-season (generally spring and fall) because the place is loaded with locals, and not uptight twin-city suburbanites (like myself). Never had a bad drink, bad pizza, or bad time at the Commander.

This is a very fun bar to go to on the weekends. Drinks are relatively cheap and they typically have decent live music. Its where most of the locals hang out at. Food is pretty good as well, and the service can be very good too.

I'm a local...used to really it go here if it was a "night out for drinking and fun w friends" now since the remodel (competition fall 2013)we can bring our family here for lunch and dinner! Such a nice, clean, cozy, friendly place! Glad to add it into our list for family nights out! After dinner is over The Commander turns back into the classic/crazy/bachelorette/bachelor/golfer etc. party we are all used to with a packed dance floor, plenty of drinks and great people watching!!

It can be confusing to out-of-towners but the Commander is the bar/restaurant upstairs and JJ's Pub is the bar/restaurant downstairs. The Commander is the larger of the two and has a more extensive food menu and a dining room that is separate from the bar and stage. Expect standard fried bar food, burgers, salads and sandwiches with a few surprises: the pizza is way above your average bar pizza and the ribs which are served on Fridays are top notch. The atmosphere is very casual (after all you are up north.) There are plenty of TVs if you are looking for a place to catch the game. But the real fun happens during Thursday Bingo, Friday night Meat Raffles, the Live Music on Saturdays, and the Karaoke on Sunday nights. This place doesn't offer a view of the lake or outdoor seating but the reasonable prices and entertainment more than makes up for it. TIP: They deliver a limited menu of Pizza & Fried Chicken so if the weather is nice get them to drop it off at your hotel room, lake cabin, or at the local swimming beach.

Commander used to be the best garbage pizza around but now it's just junk. After going there for 25 years we won't return. Not recommended at all

I have to preface this review with the fact that I really wanted to like this place. We stayed at Breezy Point Resort and wanted to get off campus...even if just outside the front gate. I love northern bars and whole scene that comes with them. I can see the Commander as a great place to throw back some beers with buddies after a day of fishing or a round of golf. That said, our experience wasn't all that good. Our extended family of 9 dined out on a Sunday evening and had a good time. It was small kid friendly, but that was largely because there weren't a lot of people there on an off-peak weekend. I can imagine summer nights are much more hopping. The food was acceptable. I had the safer "garbage pizza", which had loads of topings and was pretty tasty.. My wife had the chicken kiev, which I tried to warn her off of, but she went for anyway. Hers....was less good. A freezer to oven premade priced at a handmade scale. The tap beer was slightly flat. The service was passable, but just. Sunday karaoke was just gearing up, but that was next door in the adjacent JJ's pub, which seems to only be separated by the names from the Commander. Just know what you're getting into and you can enjoy yourself.

Awful experience. Bad,rude, unfriendly service, poor drinks at best and fair food. What else is there. Oh. The remodel is nice. But THATS ALL.

Pull tabs? You say you like pull tabs? OK. Then this place is fine. Big Buck Hunter? You say you have a Big Buck Hunter addiction? Then you should probably drop by. What else do you want? Booze? Ok they have that. Pizza? Check. People watching? Yes definitely. Pool? Yep. Worth a stop if you're in Breezy? Sure probably.

The pizza crust was not very good at all. Too dry, too floury, just not good. The sauce was ok, the toppings were ok. I guess when you get use to good pizza in Minneapolis-St. Paul, all other just don't measure up. And this place was recommended. If frozen pizza is something you normally eat, this place should be good for you. I personally will never go back there. Then again, I would never come back to Breezy Point Resort.

Before enjoying a meal here, be prepared for a couple of things: 1. Lake life. Really slow, relaxed Northern Minnesota Lake Life. Really cheery waiter (1 for the whole joint), but pretty slow uncoordinated service. 2. A non-smoking table directly next to a smoking table. 1 star for the experience and 1 star for the pull tabs (Minnesota's next best thing to the Power Ball)

THIS PLACE SUCKS. NEVER GO HERE. IT IS AWFUL!!!!!!! Our waitress was just plain flat out rude. We ordered a large cheeseburger pizza and a large cheese pizza. After an HOUR of waiting, our waitress (who seemed like she couldn't care less about us or her job) brought us ONE of the pizzas (she said it was the cheeseburger pizza) we looked at the pizza and clearly saw that it was a sausage pizza so we asked her if this was the cheeseburger pizza. Without even looking at us or the pizza, she said it was the cheeseburger pizza. Then we cut it up into slices and realized it had pepperoni in it, so we sent it back and about twenty minutes later she sent back a cheeseburger pizza. But it was a SMALL pizza. She rolled her eyes when we told her this and asked if we wanted to just eat it, by this point we had already been waiting for close to an hour an a half so we just ate it anyways. Her excuse was that "it's been a crazy week in here and there's nothing we can do it about the kitchen is all backed up." Then a little bit later, the cheese pizza came and we ate that. Then we got our bill, and saw that refills were not free. The children eating with us (and us) drank several cups of soda/milk and beer for the adults while we waited (although we didn't expect beer refills to be free) and none of us would of drank that much soda if we hadn't waited closed to TWO HOURS for our food, we were just simply trying to fill our stomachs. We told her we were very upset that our refills weren't free and the least she could of done was told us when we asked for refills that refills weren't free. She said: "yeah sorry I know it sucks but there's nothing I could do about it." She then took our credit card and went into the back, but then we yelled at her to come back and she did, rolling her eyes and shaking her head and asked us "what?" So we told her that yes in fact there was something she could, the least she could of done after the crappy service was give us free refills. So she took the bill and credit card in the back and took $15 off our bill, which is better than before, but she still should of given us a free bill or at least apologized or something (which she NEVER did!!) To mention, the manager of the restaurant was out walking around the restaurant through out the night (she stayed close to the bar though for most of the night) and never once came by our table to apologize, ask what the problem was, offer to help with anything to make it better or anything, and I knew she knew there was a problem because she was trying to get the other side of the restaurant purposely walked all the way around our table so we wouldn't see her. Also the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. The men's was out of soap (how the heck are you supposed to wash your hands after being in a filthy bar?!-luckily we had some antibac hand cleaner with us!) Also the bathrooms smelled, and had paper towels everywhere and toilet paper everywhere. Overall very horrible experience, gross bathrooms (always a turnoff for me!), crappy service, unbelievable wait time (we were there for two hours in the end) and zero apology. The food was decent, but after such a bad time nobody was really hungry. Do not recommend at all. DO NOT GO HERE.

We love the Friday meat raffle - its a must see! The food is fine...typical bar food. We enjoy the pizza most. Prices are great and service is terrific.
